I don't want to wear mittens to bed
I need some ideas from anyone who can help. These last three weeks my stomach has itched so bad! I don't mean that it itched and I scratched it once and it was all good to go, I am talking itchy itchy itchy all day long and to satisfy the itchiness I have to scratch my belly really really hard for a good amount of time and usually my stomach is still not satisfied, I just know that I have to stop scratching it. I will even wake up in the middle of the night and find myself scratching my stomach. I just can't stop myself. I try really really hard and still find myself scratching. I have bought all sorts of lotions with cocoa butter and vitamin E that people have recommended for me but it just doesn't seem to help. I have been putting the lotion on all day long and it isn't helping. Sometimes I put a little ice pack on my stomach to numb the area so I can't tell that it is itchy! All I can think of all day long is DON'T SCRATCH YOUR STOMACH! Just the other day I scratched my stomach so bad that it actually started to bleed and I have scratch marks all over my stomach. I can't stand it anymore. I have a doctors appointment this week that I am going to ask my doctor what she recommends I use, but if any one knows of anything that works good let me know because I am dying!! I am going to have to start wearing gloves to bed so I can't scratch my stomach!

Peep peep here, peep peep there...
Levi here:
My dad finally bought the chickens that he has been talking about for months. The black ones are Barred Plymouth Rock chickens and the brown ones are Silver Ameraucanas. So far the dogs have not made any direct attempts to get at the chicks. The chicks are staying in an aquarium under a desk in the kitchen until they feather out and can stay outside. I am going to have to build a coop for them out underneath the trees before they get too big.
Today we put them outside to have a little exercise. They were running and pecking at every bug they could see, even chasing flies that would zoom by. When they went back in their cage, all of them immediately got a drink and went to sleep underneath the warming light.
I decided that I wanted to name one. Its name is Beaker, named for the Muppet who only says " meep, meep, meep" and because it has a beak. It is the lightest colored brown chick on the right of the first picture (his bum is facing out) and on the far left of the second one. I have to say "it" because some could turn out to be boys and we really have no idea even though the store said they are supposed to be hens. Beaker was always striking out from the group and exploring, its already my favorite.

Over-nighter in Payson
A couple of weekends ago our friend Dave and his wife Alyona invited us to go to their cabin in Payson. We headed up after work on Friday. When we got there we got a fire going to warm us up. It was pretty chilly up there. There was still a little bit of snow on the ground. We just had a relaxing evening talking and watching movies. We also made Daves favorite pizza. Something I have never tried or even heard of. We had a frozen pizza dough that we let thaw and then for the toppings we put cheese, imitation crab meat, and tomatoes. I thought that sounds and looks disgusting but when I tried it it really wasn't that bad. I don't think Levi really liked it that much, but I didn't mind it. We also made an original pizza with pizza sauce, cheese and sausage so Levi would have something to enjoy too.
On Saturday we got up and got ready and went out for a hike. We went to a place called box canyon. It is next to the R bar C boy scout camp. We hiked down a canyon to a river. The weather was great. I even got a little to much sun and got a little burned. We had a great time. It was good to get away, even for a night, after a long week of work and school. We had a great time and hope we get to have more get-aways soon!!!!!

Hiking down into the canyon. Off to the right on a cliff that overlooks the waterfalls there was a small plaque that appeared to be a tribute to someone's dog. It was a wooden plaque with a picture of a German Shepherd and the name "Bear" was written on it. It was just leaning against the base of a tree.

20 weeks half way there!
That's right today I am 20 weeks to the day! I can't believe I am only 20 weeks. I feel like I have been pregnant forever already. I think it is because when people start to find out that you are pregnant that is all they ever talk to you about. So even though we didn't tell anyone that I was pregnant until I was like 12 or 13 weeks along I feel like that was a long long long time ago!!!
At work I use to get questions from co-workers or all the drug reps that come in things like, "What did you do this weekend?" "How was that movie?" "Any vacations planned?" "Has your day been busy?" Now all I get is, " How are you feeling?" "Have you been sick?" "What cravings do you have?" "Is it a boy or a girl?" "Have you felt her move?" "How far along are you?" Which
I really don't mind the questions here and there but you have to realize that at my work I see a new drug rep about every 30 minutes and I get all the questions over and over again all day long! So since it is Sunday and I haven't had to see all the drug reps here are all the answers to the questions for everyone. I feel great!! I still haven't been sick at all, well at least not sick due to pregnancy, I am just getting over a bad cold which unfortunately I gave to Levi. I haven't really had any cravings except I love salty things.
When I think about making something to eat for dinner I can never come up with anything that actually sounds good. Levi said I had to include that we made a 9x13 pan of enchiladas on Monday which I only had two that night and we were planning on eating the rest of the week, well now it is Sunday and I haven't had seconds and poor Levi has had it for dinner every night this week!! I don't think that we will make that again for a while. The only thing that really sounds good all the time is a hamburger and salty french fries. I know I know that is so unhealthy but it just sounds soooooooo good!
I am still not sure if I have felt her move. I felt a little fluttering but that is it.......nothing like a kick in the ribs though. I guess that will come later! I really don't care to share with everyone how fat I look but I promised my sister in law Elise that I would put a picture up since every time we talk she bugs me about it!! So here it is!

It's a....
This morning we went for an ultrasound to check up on our baby. The office is called Phoenix Perinatal Associates, and it was very nice. The woman that did the ultrasound was super polite and everybody was happy and kind, it was probably the best doctor's office I have ever been to because of how nice and helpful everyone was.
Levi was really impressed with the ultrasound machine. It recorded in real time and then the operator would pause, rewind and play forward in slow motion to make sure that she captured the correct shot for making the measurements of the baby. Then it would just snap back to real time for her to do it again. She also flipped it into a 3D rendering mode to get images of the baby in the womb. She said that based on the measurements the baby was 19 weeks along, and I will be 19 weeks on Sunday so it looks like everything is coming along on schedule. The baby is healthy and normal, and they couldn't detect any problems from the ultrasound.
I don't think that I have felt the baby moving but it was sure squirming during the ultrasound. From the very beginning the baby was moving it's arms and legs all over, and was moving pretty quick. It even rolled over and the doctor had a hard time looking at the heart because the spine was then in the way.
And finally, its a GIRL! We are so excited and can't wait till she is finally here. To tell you the truth I really wanted it to be a boy. Not for any reason in particular, I think it is because I am the only girl in my family and loved having older brothers. Also I was the little girl that told my mom, "No more PINK!" I told everyone at work that I wanted a boy but I thought it was going to be a girl because I was getting the ultrasound on Friday the 13th, and I was right! But we are really looking forward to having a little girl. There is something about a little girl that is so sweet. Our Niece Alivia is the sweetest little girl. She will come up to you and sit on your lap and cuddle with you and tell you all about everything that was going on. When the newest Nephew was born Alivia was all about it. She always wanted to sit by Reed and touch him and play with him. It was so cute! Thats the part that I am excited for. Please don't expect all the bows and dresses though because I am not that creative!

Food by the sweat of your brow.
Levi here. Since Kathy is spending her time growing a baby I have decided to get started on my garden this year and start growing some fruits and vegetables. That's not really true; I would be gardening whether or not Kathy was pregnant, I just thought that it sounded clever.
This year I have decided to focus my efforts on growing some quality plants. In the past I have grown many different kinds of veggies at a time just to see what works and to have some interesting plants. But this year I am only going to grow three vegetables: yellow crookneck squash, pickling cucumbers, and okra. I will also be growing some cantaloupe, and some watermelon. I have already sprouted some yellow watermelon and I hope they survive this storm we just had. I might return back to my old ways and grow a few different types of watermelon.
Growing your own food is pretty amazing. Kathy and I like to go out and see how much has changed each day and then come up with creative ways to use up our fruits. Last fall I had more than a few pumpkins so we roasted seeds, made pumpkin breads and muffins, carved some for Halloween, and still had some to give away.
We're hoping to have a good haul this summer because we want to try to pickle some cukes and okra (two of Kathy's favorite snacks) and we will probably need extras to perfect the process. I am also going to need to figure out a new fence to keep out the dogs. Shaka found out where carrots come from and now I find paw prints in the garden once in a while.
I will keep the blog updated with garden news and pictures of our harvests.

You look like you are glowing!
Today at work I was taking a patient back into the exam room to get his vitals and get him ready for the doctor to see and his wife was with him. His wife is also a patient there and I usually see her about once every three months because she comes in for her own appointments, her husbands, and she brings her mom for her appointments, so I have gotten to know her a little bit. Plus I talk to her on the phone with lab/xray results or whatever else I might need to discuss with her. Anyways we were in the exam room and I was asking her husband about his medications and out of no where she said, "Kathy there is something different about you!" I just kind of laughed and said really you think so? She said, "I don't know what it is but there is something diffferent about you." So I told her that over Christmas break I got a haircut, some new highlights, plus I got a cut with bangs that I have never had before and that that was probably what looked different about me. Then she said, "You know your hair does look different but there is something else. You just look like you are glowing! Your face is glowing! I really don't know what it is but you look like you are glowing!" She just kept saying it over and over. So I told her, "Yeah it might just be my new hair-do or maybe because I am pregnant!" And she freaked out!!! It was so funny! I couldn't stop laughing! She told me that the last time she came in she walked past me while I was at my desk and she thought the same thing about my face glowing but didn't say anything because I was on the phone. It is just so weird how people notice things like that. I really don't think I look different in any way. Well, except for a little gut but you wouldn't be able to see that in scrubs! Yesterday I weighed myself at work and thought I finally gained a pound but I weighed myself again today and I was down back to my original weight! I don't know what is going on I thought I was suppose to gain weight!?!?!?! The book said that I was suppose to gain atleasty 5-10 pounds by week 17 and on sunday I will be in week 16 and still haven't gained anything!
